A fond farewell …

The Derbyshire DA would like to extend a heartfelt and fond farewell to our long-term members, Ed and Marg Shipman, as they retire from their remarkable lifetime of caravanning. After an incredible 61 years dedicated to their beloved pastime, Ed and Marg are stepping back from both the Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC) and the Derbyshire District Association (DDA), where they have been cherished members for decades.

Ed and Marg’s journey began in 1964, when they purchased their very first caravan—a classic Astral Ranger—for just £300. This marked the start of a lifelong adventure, filled with countless memories, friendships, and explorations. Over the years, they have been proud CCC members for 57 years, and have remained loyal to the DDA throughout their caravanning lives.

Their passion for travel took them far and wide, from the scenic landscapes of the UK to the breathtaking destinations across Europe. Whether journeying with friends and family in convoy or venturing out on their own, Ed and Marg’s enthusiasm for caravanning has always shone through. Their stories and experiences have inspired many within our community, and their presence at events has been a source of joy for all who know them.

As they retire from this chapter, we want to express our deepest gratitude for their unwavering support, friendship, and the many contributions they have made to the Derbyshire DA. Ed and Marg Shipman will be greatly missed, but their legacy and the memories they’ve created will remain with us for years to come.

Our Chairman, Kenny Harding, had the honour of presenting Ed and Marg Shipman with a beautiful crystal vase as a token of appreciation and a heartfelt farewell on their retirement. The presentation was a touching moment, witnessed by friends, fellow members, and well-wishers who have shared in Ed and Marg’s remarkable journey over the years. The crystal vase, carefully chosen to reflect both the elegance and enduring nature of their contribution, symbolises the deep gratitude felt by everyone in the Derbyshire DA community.

Kenny spoke warmly of Ed and Marg’s unwavering commitment, their infectious enthusiasm for caravanning, and the countless ways they have enriched the lives of those around them. As he handed over the vase, he expressed not only his own thanks but also the collective appreciation of the entire association. The gesture served as a fitting tribute to a couple whose presence has been a source of inspiration and joy for so many.

The moment was filled with emotion, as memories were shared and well-wishes offered for the adventures that still await Ed and Marg in their retirement. The crystal vase will stand as a lasting reminder of the friendships forged, the journeys undertaken, and the legacy they leave behind within the Derbyshire DA.

This well known local friendly couple will be fondly missed.
