Site Overview

One of the Region’s finest, Shipley Country Park and Visitor Centre offers a great day out, with superb play areas, an outdoor gym and a host of seasonal events, self-guided trails and specialist workshops to enjoy. Day fishing is available from the bankside and there are 20 miles of quiet paths and bridleways to discover. The Nutbrook Trail is a traffic free route running through the park, from Heanor to Long Eaton, ideal for both walking and cycling. There’s an extensive network of wayfaring points around the park and a range of facilities for horse riders.

Set in 700 acres of rolling hills, wildflower meadows and tranquil lakes teeming with wildlife. The Shipley Estate was an ancient manor mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086), when it was recorded as belonging to Gilbert of Ghent, the nephew of William the Conqueror. Then in the 18th century, developed as a country estate and coal mining area by the influential Miller Mundy family.

The Visitor Centre with Arts and Crafts Shop is a great place to start your visit, with a wonderful selection of unique cards, prints, handcrafted gifts and quality homewares. For tasty treats and homemade snacks head to the Ramblers Coffee Shop in the Visitor Centre or discover Derby Lodge Tearoom a little further afield.

Tramper mobility scooters are popular and available to hire from the Visitor Centre, offering freedom for those with more limited mobility. With all that's on offer, and 1,000 years of history, we’re sure that you’ll enjoy your visit.
